Virtual Pets

Does anybody remember those Tamagotchi pet things?
If you don't know what they are, they are vitural pets. When you get a Tamagotchi Pet an egg hatches and thus your virtual child is born. You have to take care of your pet or it will eventually die.

They became really popular in 1998 and were all the rage.

I think I was a bit old for them, but as a person who is NEVER going to miss out on the current fad I had one, and I loved it.

LOVED it.

I may have been nerdy, and I might have taken my little Tamagotchi pet a little too seriously but I loved it.

I would nurture my sweet little virtual pet and when be so disappointed and feel like I failed if it died.

Fast forward to 2010. I am now married, and I had no idea I was married to a man who shared my love of taking care of a virtual pet. Until recently.

Let's back track, the other night Luke and I are in bed, we are about to go to sleep when Luke freaks out that he needs to water his followers before he goes to sleep.

Um, hold up, WHAT?

He then pulls out his iPhone, goes to some app and begins to feed his followers.

I sat in schock. My 26 year old husband had his very own version of a virtual pet.

The next day after church we are sitting down to eat with friends, when Luke, who usually lectures me about sitting on my phone with friends, pulls out his phone and begins to care for his followers.

When our friends asked what he was doing and his honestly replied, taking care of my followers, they lost it, complete hysterical laughter.

I mean really, what else can you do in this situation?

For the last week I have watched my husband water his followers, feed them, put them to work and put them to sleep, so that they will be rested up for the next day.

I am by no means making this up.

I don't really understand what the game is, because between you and me I honestly don't care but my husband is obsessed with it.

Obviously you have little followers whom you take care of. I don't really understand much more than that.

It is weird to have flashbacks of Jr high when watching your husband play a game.

I better watch out, next thing I know he is going to be playing Dream Phone

I totally had a nano baby. I think that is what they were called. I was so obsessed with it. Then I had a Furbie and became obsessed with that. I can not believe that your Hubby is playing with virtual flowers. That is so funny!! For your sake I hope he doesn't discover Dream Phone! :) So funny!!

I totally remember those nano pet thingys but I'm pretty sure my parents refused to give in to that particular fad so I never got to have one.

I'd watch out for your husband's "followers" hehe

I had the Nano Baby. I was so serious about the whole thing! My friends and I walked to WalMart and were beyond thrilled when we used our allowance to buy one!

Ahhh! Tamogatchis were ridiculous! But I, too, HAD to have one so as to not be the only one without one! Mine always met an early death. I was a terrible virtual parent.

My fiance is obsessed with Zombie Farm... All day long it's zombie this and zombie that!

And OMG, Dream Phone! I broke my old one out and played it with my little sisters a few weeks ago. Also, what about Mall Madness?! LOVE.

That is so hilarious.

I never had one of those things, but I had a friend who was going to camp one summer and she asked me to take care of it for her. I found it so ridiculous!

Yes!!!! I LOVED my virtual pet! Our school had to ban them because everyone would play with them during class. :( Oh and I'm totally finding out what game he has and downloading it!

I had one of those! My little sister thought she was helping me by giving it water. Literally, gave it water. That was the end of my Tamagotchi!

My sis and brother had those virtual pet things. I believe I was a little too old, but I guess that didn't stop you. :)

Want to know something hilarious?

I still have Dream Phone and I forced my husband to play with me once. AND HE WON!?!

I was not pleased.

My husband has an App on his phone for growing a special flower and he has to check up on at least once an hour. Random but makes me feel like he'll be a good father someday. =)

I had one of those pets, but I kept killing it which led me to weekly meltdowns about how I would never be a good mother. Obvs my parents quit buying them for me..

Flashback time!!! I'm cracking up at the idea of Luke with his followers!!! That sounds so "cult-ish" - haha!!!

I wont do the virtual pets - even those games on Facebook with the pets because I always let them go & I come back & see them with sad, droopy eyes & I cant take the guilt!

Haha! My mom and I were reminiscing about this the other day. I had a Tamogatchi and a Nano pet. There was also a little Mermaid one. Mine died a few times, too.

I totally had one of those pet things and mine stayed a live for a really, really long time. Like a few weeks (which was a really long time for those things). But then, after it "died" the first time, it would not stay alive for more than like 2 days at a time. It annoyed me and then I stopped playing with it.

Also? LOVED the Dream Phone. That was pretty awesome!

I definitely had a Tamagachi! I remember our teachers having to take them away because we would get them out to feed our "pets" during class. Luke cracks me up with his followers! Apparently the "virtual pet" was a pretty catchy idea!

Haha that's cute. Unfortunatly I was only but Three when it came out, so I vagualy remember mine always dying therefor my parents stopped buying me them. haha.

Umm, OMG. PLEASE come play dream phone with me. Or invite me to your new house so I can bring Dream Phone to you. I call dibs if our dream man is Steve though.

Also, I had a Nano Pet AND a Tamagotchi. Cause I was really cool.

But seriously, what is this game Luke is playing? I'm already obsessed. With "followers" it sounds like he's playing Twitter but... yeah I don't know how to water my followers. Maybe with a Dasani or something?
