The Night My Closet FELL.

Today after work I went and did my jogging and then came home to a yummy roast, potatoes and carrots.

The cute hubs had put the food in the crock pot before work and then had it all ready when I got home. He's a pretty good guy.

He was practically BEGGING me to take his picture so I kindly obliged. (can you sense my sarcasm??) His hair looks really crazy in this picture, I think its the shadow. While his hair does get many stares, its usually not that crazy.
Luke had a show tonight and I was going to go, but he told me I didn't need to. He has another one at the same place next month, and he understands how hard it is for me to go out in the cold. I took a picture of Luke and some of his band mate leaving for the show. Pretty sure I heard "bye mom" as they left.
So about 10 minutes after the boys left I heard the loudest/scariest/creepiest noise ever.

I had no idea what it was, but it came from the bedroom. I knew that much

It was the kind of noise that causes every hair on your body to stand.

So I grabbed my phone, grabbed a pen (the only weapon I had close by) and opened the front door.

My theory on that was if somebody was in the apartment I had an easy exit.

I'm always thinking people.

So before I went to investigate the noise I called Luke. Keep in mind I am still shaking at this point.

I explained to Luke what happened and HE SAID: "Babe, you probably just heard something from the apartment downstairs".

Um. excuse me? I almost lost my life and he thinks it was a FIGMENT OF MY IMAGINATION?!?!

So I made him stay on the phone with me while I went around the apartment to see what the invisible noise was.

I made my way to the closet and found this. The ENTIRE left side of my closed just FELL. I didn't even know that could happen.
I started screaming.

You should note, if you call your husband and say you heard a scary noise and then start screaming, he might panic and think something is wrong.

Just saying.

I think he had to say my name several times before I could even speak, I was just speechless. Let's look again:
Yup, those are all of our clothes. Just chilling on the floor.

LOVE this apartment.

Here is the shelf that held the rod of clothes, pretty sure it's not supposed to look like this:
Those are the nails that are supposed to be in the wall. I should say that I spent the rest of my night picking up the clothes but that would be a lie.

They are still on the floor.

I just completely cleaned and reorganized my closet last month. I do not have it in me to do it all again.

I wonder how we will possibly find something to wear tomorrow? I might be wearing my PJ's to work tomorrow.

  1. OH NO!!! That's crazy! I'm so sorry. That happened to Jill's closet once because she had too much weight on the rod. Don't tell Luke that though or he may make you get rid of some clothes!:)

  4. OMG! The same thing happened to me - but when I was living by myself in NC! I think I called my mom and was freeking out about someone being in my apartment and she said something similar to what your husband said. I walked into my bedroom clutching my mini-louisville-slugger which probably couldn't hurt a thing (that I had made when I went to the factory in KY), but it made me feel better. But yeah, there were all my clothes scattered on my floor and my cat looking at me with those "what the heck just happened?!" eyes.

  6. My closet has also fell several times! I think it's a conspiracy by the closet-rod-and-shelf makers!

  7. Wow those nails look quite serious... I don't think my closet was quite that, um, bad when it all fell down.

Crossing my fingers that your closet rod re-hangs itself. That can happen, right??

  9. I died laughing. I'm waiting on our closet to do the same thing. Soooo funny that you screamed and he thought something was really wrong - I could totally see me doing that.

  10. Your reaction to the sound would by exact reaction. Call my husband, freak out, plan my exit and freak out some more. :)

Sad day about your closet. That happened at my old apartment and I cried. But it did force me to get rid of a bunch of stuff.

  11. 1. I seriously love your blog. You always have the best stories and pictures.

    2. I feel your pain about being home alone and hearing a big noise. I had the same thing happen in my apartment last week and I called my bf while I investigated.

    3. Big mess! Good luck cleaning that!

  12. Oh my gosh Megan, I hate to tell you this but I am cracking up! I feel awful about all of your clothes in the floor, though, especially since you recently reorganized. What a bummer. You certainly know how to tell a story, girly. Good luck redeeming the fallen closet.

  16. Same thing happened to me a few months ago & the complex tried to blame it on me saying I had too many clothes.

P.s. did you hear about the free day to Disney if you voluntter?

  20. oh my word!! this happened to us about two weeks ago!! but the funny thing is...it apparently happened to us while we were asleep and we NEVER head a thing....AND...it was only the hubs' side of the closet!!! :)

  21. My 3 year old just asked me why I was laughing so hard!! You are hilarious Megan... you kill me.
I TOO would not be wanting to pick up the craziness on the floor... I hope you were able to find clothes this a.m.!!

  22. I do that all the time--freak out about noises and possible home-invasions. Whenever I am home alone, I carry my cell around with me from room to room. Yes, it's paranoid. I think my low point was last week when I had no pockets in my pajamas, so I put the cell phone in my underwear. My husband made the obvious jokes about "vibrate mode," but I was seriously imagining myself on the Today show, talking about how my hidden cell phone saved my life in a kidnapping.

  23. That happened to me one time too, so I feel your pain! UGGGG! And it would be different if your closet needed a good cleaning (say, the universe was speaking to you!) but you JUST cleaned it!
My hubby would have had the same reaction after the scream! LOL!

  29. Goodness, I feel like I haven't been by your blog in a while! LOVEEEEE the new layout!!!! And oh my gosh, that happened to my closet THREE times in one year when I was in college. Our apartment complex finally told me that I had too many clothes and the problem WASN'T a faulty hanging rack. What a mess! Hope you're having a fabulous week so far!

  30. That is terrible! I would hate to have to hang all those clothes up again! My door fell of of my linen closet this morning. No reason. I just shut it and it totally fell off! :(

  31. This made me laugh a lot! I would probaly have screamed too and then my husband would have been very annoyed that I screamed and scared him over a closet falling. Although last year the shower curtain rod in our apartment kept randomly falling. This usually happend when I was about to get into the shower. A couple of times the rod landed on my head. Not fun I'm pretty sure I screamed.

  32. While this is pretty awful, it kind of made me laugh. But, the one good thing about renting this apartments is you don't have to pay to fix it, right? I'm sorry my friend :(

    ReplyDelete
  33. Oh my your braver than me because there is NO way I would be looking for where that noise came from! I can't believe your closet fell! That's crazy and good luck picking it all up:)

  34. you are the best story teller! i love your stories.

and i wanted to let you know that same thing happened to me about a month or two ago. i think i had too much weight on the rod. :(

  35. You always have something to say to crack me up!!

The same exact thing happened to us, but, our closet rod fell in the middle of the night and my husband got up in his tighty whities to investigate the situation!!

So sorry for the huge disaster mess! Hopefully a sweet husband will help you pick it all up, since you did just reorganize!!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Oh dang, that sucks, I'm sorry! I'll help you pick up...if you come get me. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  37. Is it bad that I DIED with laughter reading this. Everything made me giggle and then I nearly cried for you at the thought of having to pick up ALL those dang clothes! I would've left 'em, too, girl!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Oh no!!! I would have screamed too!!

  44. I hate that this happened to you, because now I'm afraid my closet will fall too. I have good reason to believe this, since it is sagging in the middle a few nails appear to be coming out. Please don't let this happen to me, please don't let this happen to me!
