In a State of Confusion

Going from a PC person to a Mac person has proved to be tricky.

Luke has had a Mac for several years, and while I use his from time to time, I primarily used my PC for all of my blogging, twittering needs.

You know, basically the necessities of life.

So while I am unbelievably grateful for my expensive gift that my husband got me, I am utterly irritated with it.

I don’t know how to do anything.

I had 3 blog posts in my head that I was going to whip out last night.

However, they are still in my head because I spent 3 hours trying to figure out how to freaking get the pictures on my blog.

Excuse my language, computer problems cause me to use words like freaking.

I am ashamed to admit this but I have always been annoyed with people who are technologically incompetent.

When people would ask “dumb” computer questions, I would often wonder to myself “why don’t they just problem solve???”

I am eating those words.

I tried to problem solve for three hours last night which then made me cry and try to hide it from my husband because I don’t want to seem ungrateful for my gift.

I am grateful I have just never felt more dumb in my life.

Except for when I play Words with Friends. Nothing screams “I have the vocabulary of a 5th grader” more than playing “scrabble” with 20 friends on your phone and getting beat by all. of. them.

So for now this is all you get.

You don’t get my weekly weekend update with pictures full of fun times, You don’t get a post about how the workout room in the apartments uses WINDEX to disinfect and you sure as heck don’t get pictures of me working hard in my office wearing my Snuggie.

I know you are so bummed.

After work Luke is going to walk me through how to use my Mac. Which should be interesting since he is not a blogger and does not understand the blog lingo. He will probably show me how to import a song into an email which will help me in no way.

Until then I will be working on my vocabulary. I have 20 friends that I need to beat.

  1. I can't believe you are having so much trouble switching! But, I'd say skip the Luke-help desk and go straight to your nearest Apple store and take their Mac basics class. And if you don't want to do that, use the Mac website. There's tons of tutorials like "anatomy of a mac" and "move to mac" and "PC to Mac: The Basics." I think you'll catch on in no time, and in a few days, will realize how much more intuitive a Mac is! PC always steals Mac features and incorporates them a few years later!

    Macs rule, PCs drool :)

    Good luck!

  3. The Apple Store and apple.com are incredibly helpful if Luke can't answer all of your questions. I would probably still be lost if I hadn't had those resources. Trust me, it takes a while to get used to a Mac after a pc, but once you get the hang of it, you will never want to go back!

  4. Wish I could help you but I can't. I am not good at computers and the Mr usually helps me with all my questions.

  5. Did I mention I had a MAC for a week once?

Yeah, I didn't and you know why? Because I don't talk about those times. Ever. To anyone.

Even The Boy doesn't know that I had a Mac - and we were dating at the time.

My point is: yes, Macs are professional and fancy and expensive. BUT - they are not user friendly and if I can't get what I want to get done in a timely manner - FORGET IT.

But fortunately for you, you are not me and therefore you are going to figure it out more quickly because you have patience and don't act like a 2-year old when things don't go "your way."

    I'm just saying.

Conquer that Mac....just so I know it can be done. Ok?

  6. "He will probably show me how to import a song into an email which will help me in no way."

    LOL

Don't worry, I promise once you adjust you will like it much better. Try and think SIMPLE - macs use less steps to do stuff than pcs, but it takes a while to figure out where stuff is, etc.

    You'll get there!

  9. Aw, you will get it.
It took me a good week to figure things out but I am in LOVE with mine now. Madly in love... and I would never ever go back to a PC again. EVER!
*Hugs* and you can feel free to email me if you want to ask a question... I can see if I can help :)

  11. I can't imagine going from a PC to a Mac. I've heard that they are great, but just so different. It'll take me awhile to figure it out!

  12. oh my goodness! You are not stupid. When I first got my Mac, I couldn't figure anything out. My sweet room mate helped me out, and I got the hang of it quickly! I felt so dumb since Macs are supposed to be like the most user friendly compared to PCs, but it did take some time!

Don't lose heart! You can do it :)

  13. I'm so sorry it's taking you a while with the MAC. It probably would have me too if I wouldn't have started at such a young age! I wish I was there to teach you! If you have a any questions, just call or text me!!

  15. BTDT

I had a PC until our school district went MAC. I have now had a MacBook for nearly a year and I cannot stand using the PC at home anymore. It is an adjustment, but I am so used to using the MAC for everything I do school related I am more used to that now.

  16. I switched also this year but I love it and would never go back. When I got mine a friend told me to think about how a 1st grader would do it and try that. Her example was instead of multiple steps to save a photo just drag it to the picture folder.
I have some trouble at times finding the photos though and I am guessing that is your problem as well.
Side note.... the gym at our condo also uses WIndex. Luckily hardly anyone uses it!
