TGIF

I know its not Friday and I titled my post TGIF - but I'm not referring to the catchphrase 'Thank Goodness It's Friday'.

I'm talking about the phenomenon on ABC that aired on Friday nights between 1988 and 2005.

Do you remember it? Did you LOVE it?

As a little girl I can remember looking forward to Friday's just so I could watch this amazing lineup of TV shows.

It is one of my favorite memories of childhood.

When I was really young we lived in St. Louis for a couple of years, and I can always remember watching TGIF waiting for my grandparents to drive in from OK to stay with us for the weekend.

The shows changed throughout the years that TGIF aired and eventually culture and the world moved on and there was no longer room for TGIF and those sitcom type shows.

So I now watch them on Nick at Nite, ABC Family or even YouTube. Wherever I can find them because I loved them so much.

Some people find them corny, but to me they are apart of my childhood. I don't care how many times I have seen an episode of Full House, if that show is on and I am home you better believe that I am going to be watching it.

My favorite shows on TGIF included Family Matters, Step by Step, Boy Meets World (in the later years of TGIF) and of course Full House (in the early years before it was moved to Tuesday nights).

Did you watch TGIF? What was your favorite show?

  6. Oh my goodness... I loveloveloved TGIF! Seriously, when I was a child I looked forward to Friday and "Family Time" because my parents would make us some sort of treat(popcorn, caramel corn, nachos, etc.) and we would get to stay up "late" and snuggle on the floor or couch with them. Best. time. ever.

Funny #2-- the other night my friends and I were totally discussing this... and we went on YouTube and looked up the dinosaur show... for some reason, I loved it.

  26. Loved TGIF! My best friend and I would always spend Friday nights at one of our houses where we had pizza and watched all the shows in our sleeping bags on the floor. In the morning we would wake up for Saved by the Bell and pancakes. Oh what memories!!!

Side note - I taught 3rd grade (until I had my daughter 2 yrs ago.) One day there were a bunch of my girls (8 and 9yrs old) and they were talking about how a NEW Full house was going to be on that night and they were so excited. I tried to explain to them that the show had been on when I was 8 or 9 but they didn't believe me. It was so funny!

  37. I LOVED TGIF. My sisters and I used to bring pillows and blankets into our living room floor and watch all of those shows. Great memories... back when TV used to have wholesome shows for the family. I miss those days.

  39. This is funny. I posted today about how in elementary school I did imitations of Steve Urkel at the talent show.
This conversation makes me think of Full House's theme song. "Whatever happened to predictability, the milkman the paper boy, evening TV"
