Minor Misfortunes

Sunday was a day of minor misfortunes. Nothing big just minor and kind of funny.

The misfortunes:
#1 The Key:
It was Sunday morning and I was running late to church, which I hate to do because there is nothing worse than walking into church late and having your husband shake his head at your tardiness while on stage. Actually he doesn't really shake his head but I can tell what he is thinking just by looking at him. Or maybe its just my guilty conscience getting the best of me.
Whatever the case is, I woke up late and I was running around like a crazy woman trying to get to church on time.

I fixed my hair, gathered my belongings, ran out to my car, put the key in the ignition and this happened: My key completely and utterly fell apart. Please see below:
And contrary to what my dad thinks yes, it did just fall apart. I did not step on it, I did not drop it I simply put it in the ignition and it fell apart. And in case your wondering, it doesn't work like this, it has to be put together for some weird reason.

#2 The Pants
Yesterday afternoon I did something completely traumatizing. I guess I thought I was feeling a little too peppy that day and needed to bring it down a few notches. For some strange reason that I will never understand I pulled every pair of pants out of my closet and tried them ALL on. Some of them I have had since junior year of college, and some of them were just a wee bit too tight.

Normal people don't do this, I still don't know why I did this. Who tries on all of their pants?!?! Especially after being married for a year and gaining that lovely 'marriage weight'.

#3 The Candle
Yesterday we had some friends over for dinner, so as I usually would do I put a candle on the candle burner so that it would melt and radiate a pleasant aroma into the air.

Later that night I forgot it was still on, however I was reminded it was on when a picture frame fell off the top shelf and knocked the candle over, spilling the wax EVERYWHERE. Have you ever tried to clean up wax? You would think it would just peel up. No. No. it does not.

It made such a mess: (you can see it splattered on the wall on the left side) and it was all over the carpet - actually I say was, it still is.
On our honeymoon picture album:

I have to be honest and tell you that I just left the wax like that and went to bed. I was so tired and the wax was already dry, I knew it would still be there the next day.

Which it was, and I am still trying to scrape up with a knife.

And as for the key, after my husband found out it would be over $100 to replace it, he decided we would glue it back together.

I'll let you know how that goes.

  2. Oh my gosh, the wax...what a pain! I found this online. http://www.wikihow.com/Get-Wax-out-of-Fabrics-and-Carpet. I don't know if it works or not, but it's what most sites say to do if you get wax on your carpet. Worth a try. :)

  3. I got wax in my carpet once, and I put a paper towel on top of the spots, then put an iron on top of the paper towel. The iron heats the wax up, and it soaks up into the paper towel. So much easier than a knife and it didn't even stain the carpet.
    Good luck!

  8. WOW... I've never seen that much candle wax in my life!!!!

I've always heard - if you can warm it up somehow & make it soft, its easier to get up - you can WIPE it up then!

  11. Oh my goodness!! I have to say though, the paper and iron is what I've heard for the carpet, so I would give that a try.

  13. OH dear! I hope this week goes better for you! Wax is definitely a pain to clean up--for your album you might try somehow getting the wax really cold (almost frozen) and then it should pop off more easily. I guess you could always put your album in the freezer! ;o)

  14. OH goodness, hope things start looking better. You should say something to the dealership about the key just falling apart, that's not cool!

  15. jeez girl!! Don't you hate it when a bunch of little things go wrong? There's nothing you can say, cause they're small...but they sure build up!! You should be done with mishaps by now though: free and clear for a bit. :) lol.

  17. Oh my goodness...who know a key could fall apart like that!

I have so many pants in my bedroom that I should get rid of, but if I do, then I am admitting to the fact that my hips have gotten wider in the past 12 months. I can't bring myself to do it!

  19. Oh my goodness you poor thing!! It's like there's a dark cloud hovering over you!

You are brave for trying on all of your pants...no way is that happening.

  20. Oh nooo! What a day girl! I hope all that wax comes up easily for you! I am with ya and have done the pants trying on, I have no idea why!... I won't be doing that again for a LONG time, haa!

  21. I've spilled wax on my carpet before. The trick is to let it dry, put a paper towel over it, put your iron on a low setting, and then press it against the papertowel. It melts the wax and absorbs it onto the papertowel without getting onto your iron!

  22. i was so excited to share my wax-off-the-carpet trick, but it turns out everyone knows that one . . .

unfortunately I dont know any tricks for getting it off your honeymoon album (which I love, by the way, very cute!) :-)

all those kind of things just put me in the worst mood - I hope today is absolutely FANTASTIC to make up for it!

  23. I did the EXACT same thing with my pants on Sunday night! Why? My hubby told me my fave jeans (which I had bought two pairs of at the time bc I loved them so) were too tight, and they were worn out. :( I was saddened, but at least I didn't walk around this winter with wome sketchy pants!

  24. aww I am so sorry! The key thing has happened to me before but it wasn't my key/car- it was my moms. We just tried to tape it back together! :) Oh & the wax will come out somehow. I actually just did this while babysitting. The power was out and the little boy ran into the table that it was sitting on spilling it all over the table! :( I think ice works though, not sure!

  26. Oh no oh no! I am so sorry- that wax is going to be killer. I had a mess with a candle warmer too- but mine was not that bad. it was in the kitchen. Good luck.
