I Need a New Work-Out Plan

I have come up with a new work-out plan.

Lately I have been discouraged by my entrance into Corporate America and the amount of hours I sit behind a computer.

Its quite disgusting.

So I devised a plan to help beat the office-induced tummy-flab.

I eat a quick lunch at my desk and then I use my lunch hour to run to different clothing stores, find clothes I like, try them on as fast as I can, hang them back up and then leave and go to another store.

I find that this is a great cardio activity, which doubles as a way to find out what is in style for the season. And believe it or not I have pretty great self-control. I can go into a store, see something I absolutely love and then turn around and leave the new found item. This self control was not inherited from my mother.

It might have been birthed from the fact that when I got married my cute hubby put the Fear of God in me about not spending obsessive amounts of money on clothes like I did when I was a single woman.

Anyway, back to the new calorie burning work out plan: Up until today the plan worked liked a charm.

However, that was before I stepped in our newly renovated TJ Maxx.

I went into TJ Maxx today at lunch to gather clothes to try on, I got a couple of super cute dresses, a pair of limited pants (only $14!) and a couple of shirts and headed into the new dressing rooms.

I had no idea the horror that was about to unfold.

In these new dressing rooms were brand new mirrors with brand new FLOURESCENT lights down each side of the mirror. I'm talking full legnth mirrors with full legnth flourescent lights.

I’m not sure who invented flourescent lights, but I’m certain it was not a woman at the end of winter season.

Just one glance at myself in the mirror I quickly concluded that I needed to BATHE in gallons of lotion, find a tanning bed quick to bring some color back into my life, and don’t even get me started on my shade of makeup which I clearly bought in the spring, or the size of my pores. It was all bad. Real bad.

As soon as I finished trying on my clothes (I still had to burn those extra calories) I ran out of the room like I had seen a ghost.

I wanted nothing to do with what I had seen in that room.

I think everybody can agree with me when I say Spring can’t come quick enough.

So now I am in need of a new work out plan. I am NOT going near flourescent lights again until my legs and arms have at least made contact with the sun (even if it is man-made sun).

Maybe I will try jogging again - I've heard its a good way to work out, it just won't bring me face to face with today's hottest new fashion styles.

  1. The lights at TJ Maxx are particularly harsh. I hear you. (Although, I am pretty much always pale, so I am learning to TRY to accept it. Emphasis on the try.) Better luck next time!! = ) and until then, enjoy the jogging.

  2. Oh Spring can't come soon enough.. I refuse to try on anything else until I start getting daily doses of Vitamin D. It's just too dang scary otherwise!

  3. Haha this cracked me up. Trying on clothes always tires me out and depresses me -- haha

:-) can't wait for spring either! Although I have to go to the beach (ok get to) next week so I have to wear a bathing suit - yikes!

  4. Haha this was great! I like your workout plan but would not have enough self-control. My husband hasn't put The Fear in me yet but I wish he would. I obviously need some kind of help. I totally understand about the flourescent lights! They're never a good idea.

  5. Ahh it was such a good idea! Maybe after a few days of jogging outside you can go with workout plan A, beat the odds on the lights, and check out the styles, haha!

  6. hahahaha, that is hilarious. It's always a bummer trying on clothes in the winter and those lights don't seem to make it easier! I'm jealous that you can walk in, try something cute on and then walk right out. That takes some control right there!

  7. I'm so with you! Who in their right mind would put florescent bulbs/lights in a dressing room. I mean that is the best way to keep me from shopping at your store!

I need a tan like nobodies business, the sun just doesn't shine here much! Tanning bed it is!

  9. Those lights are HORRIBLE--I totally agree with you. I think the same person that invented them invented stockings and heels too! ;)

  14. This is so funny. I have no idea who you have such self control because I sure don't.

I'm sure you will feel better when spring comes around and if you feel like it, jogging really is a great workout. I just added running to my workout plan and I love it. Also try the workout classes at your gym. I also loves those!

  15. I agree...dressing room lights are painful!

  16. Very funny and too true! I'd also like to add that florescent lights draw large amounts of attention to cellulite - a problem which you are blessed not to have to experience! Even in the summer certain dressing rooms are horrifying - obviously designed by the architects and NOT the marketing department - because the last thing you want to do is BUY something after one of those experiences!

  17. I totally can not wait for Spring either! You are so funny - I love the line about not knowing who invented fluorescent lights, but you're sure it wasn't a woman at the end of winter - hahaha. I love your blog:)

  18. Flourscent lights are from the devil. But I LOVE your new work out plan. And I bow to your self control. :-)

  19. I'm amazed at your self control! There is no way I could do that. The only time I usually walk out without buying something though, is if I try it on in the store. HA I always think something looks so cute till I see it on my body. Ugh! My hubby tried to put the fear in me but it didn't work. He doesn't even say anything anymore, probably because he usually gets something as well. I will feel guilty and make a trip over to the men's section just to find him something so he can't complain. HA

  21. This is hilarious!!! I hate dressing room mirrors. I like to believe that they are lying to me and I really have an incredible body! So I purchase the item and get home and it looks just as bad on me. I'm constantly returning things.

  22. WHY do they put those horrible lights??? Dont they know the more attractive the lighting, the more we want to buy... I HATE looking in those mirrors & seeing all my celulite reflecting in the light that is unhuman!!! Just cruel!

  23. Haha - I was using that workout plan lately too, and surprisingly had self control! I didn't check out the TJ Maxx dressing room though. However, I do like the new look of the stores. Just be careful tanning :)

  24. You are so silly! That is definately an interesting work out plan you have going on! I wouldn't have the self control to leave stuff in the store though. Yes-florescent lights are NOT good at all! I am thinking about getting a spray tan.....we will see!

  25. LOL, this cracked me up!! Just wait till you start having kids and looking in those mirrors! What a great post! You are just being hard on yourself, you look great!

  26. Flourescent lights are NEVER good. yikes! Clearly the person designing that dressing room didn't want to actually sell clothes to women!!

  27. You are so funny!! I love this post! And I was on a similar work out plan as yours, but my self control or lack thereof was bad...real bad! So I had to stop. Cold turkey. Ugh I miss it! I don't miss the mirrors though. Nothing brings the self-esteem down like fluorescent lights.

  36. Fleurescent lights should be banned from society. End of the story. Ugh. :)
